Not Just Your Typical Joe DiMaggio Single Signed Baseball
Over the decades Brigandi Coin and Collectibles has bought and sold literally hundreds and hundreds of DiMaggio "singles". This one, however, is quite different, in fact the very first one we've encountered in our many years in the arena. It's autographed by the Yankee Clipper on a "Joe DiMaggio" Official League Baseball manufactured by Rawlings/Reach Company, the very same makers of the baseballs used by the American League. We love the theme here--a Joe D. Single on his own endorsed baseball. Quite "cool" indeed !
These DiMaggio-endorsed baseballs are generally thought to be manufactured in the 1940's--the company's stampings and logos indicate such. However, through our many years of dealing in the hobby, we can report that we have bought and sold at least two of these rare DiMaggio-endorsed baseballs that were signed by the 1938 Yankee team. So "the jury is still out", as the saying goes. One thing is for certain, this special baseball dates to at least the early-1940's and is certainly an uncommon item.
His large, fully-legible autograph sprawls across the sweet spot and a slight coat of clear shellac was applied, protecting the signature through the years. The ball was never used, and it has what the hobby refers to as "great eye appeal". In sum, it looks terrific and will enhance any Yankee display.
No, not the DiMaggio single signed baseball you generally encounter for sale in the hobby, which is why we immediately purchased it. We specialize in quality and scarcity. This one certainly fits that criteria and tailor-made for an Yankee collection, advanced or otherwise. Special for sure and guaranteed to impress the visitors who view it in your display case. Comes with a letter of authenticity from the Psa Company.
