Rare M&M Boys Signed 11x14 Photo
Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, along with Ruth and Gehrig, are the most sought after pair in the entire hobby and certainly tough to find. Unfortunately, Roger Maris passed away in 1985, right before the sports collecting boom, so the supply of authentic specimens is astronomically lower than those pieces featuring just Mantle.
We've owned dual-signed baseballs and 8x10 photos over the years, but never have we owned an oversized 11x14 photo signed by both sluggers. In fact, this is just the first we've ever seen... Once we saw it, we knew we had to add it to our collection - it is that scarce!
The 1961 season is one of the most iconic years of Major League Baseball's rich history! That of course is due to the incredible home run chase between Yankee sluggers Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. The M&M's competed against one another all season long to break Babe Ruth's single-season home run record (60) from the 1927 season. In the end, it was Maris who hit 61 in '61, while Mantle fell just shy at 54 as injuries ended his season prematurely. Maris would go on to be named American League MVP for the second consecutive year (Mantle would claim MVP in 1962), and the Yankees went on to win the World Series!
