Rare Ken Griffey Jr Original Type I Photo, 8x10. 1987 High School. PSA
Offered here is a rare photograph of "The Kid" as a kid! Before getting drafted by Seattle Mariners with the #1 overall pick in the 1989 MLB Draft, Griffey was named the 1987 U.S high school baseball player of the year and hit .478 with 17 home runs at Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Unlike his 1989 Upper Deck rookie card and the typical autographs commonly found in the memorabilia market, original Type 1 photographs from Griffey's high school days are extremely rare, and this particular 8"x10" photo couldn't be more perfect! Featured in his Moeller HS uniform, Junior is absolutely crushing the ball, and we get an early glimpse at baseball's sweetest swing! Just look at his form and focus on his face as the ball leaves the bat. Not to mention all the juvenile equipment scattered behind the chain link backstop...classic!
A Type I Photo is a first generation photograph, developed from the original negative during the period when the photo was taken. They are the most desirable and valuable because of their clarity, originality, and rarity.
In a world where cards and autographs traditionally dominate the hobby, vintage photography is one of our favorite new areas in the collectors universe. These original photographs are extremely scarce with only a few known, and serious collectors consider them true artifacts, as opposed to cards and other memorabilia that were mass produced for commercial sale and advertising. Comes encapsulated in a PSA Type 1 Jumbo Slab.
