One of the most popular autographs in the hobby, we are proud to offer this unique and incredibly desirable appointment signed by President John F. Kennedy. Dated November 14, 1961, the appointment names celebrated lyricist, Alan Jay Lerner, as “a Member of the Advisory Committee on the Arts (National Cultural Center)” – now known as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The appointment displays bold signatures of both President Kennedy and Secretary of State Dean Rusk, and measures approximately 18.5” x 22.5”.
Interestingly enough, Kennedy and Lerner were classmates in prep-school and later at Harvard University. Mr. Lerner would go on to collaborate with Frederick Loewe on the Tony award-winning musical “Camelot,” known far and wide as JFK’s favorite musical. Perhaps nothing reflects the connection between Kennedy’s presidency and its Camelot legacy more so than Lerner’s famous lyrics, which were quoted by Jackie Kennedy in an interview just a month after her husband’s assassination. “Don’t let it be forgot / That once there was a spot / For one brief shining moment that was known / as Camelot." Just an incredible piece of history from the Kennedy administration, signed by Jack himself!
