This photo may be one of the most popular sports images of all-time, but not all fans know the history behind it. April 17th, 1951 Opening Day, Mickey Mantle made his Major League debut and recalled it was the worst day of his life. Mantle's first big league appearance was filled with great expectation and he was also playing alongside two of the greatest players of the era, DiMaggio and Williams! Mantle admitted he was so scared that he didn't sleep the night before! Wearing No.6 at the time, Mantle blushed when a photographer asked him to pose for a picture sandwiched between Joltin' Joe and Teddy Ballgame!

Mantle batted third in front of DiMaggio and started in right field, finishing 1-for-4 with an RBI to help defeat the Red Sox 5-0. Also, an interesting note, Bob Sheppard, the legendary Yankee PA announcer, made his debut the same day. Of course, Mantle would be sent down to the minors mid-season, but return for the World Series with his new number 7!

This is easily one of our most popular vintage baseball signed photos. It was a favorite for collectors during the sports memorabilia craze in the 1980s, but oversized versions like this are challenging to find today. This example measures 11x14 and all three autographs are perfectly scripted in bold blue ink. The photo has been custom framed and double matted, and comes with a Letter of Authenticity from PSA.
