Michael Jordan Signed Check, Early Style 1989 "The Shot". Auto PSA Mint 9
Michael Jordan Signed Check, PSA 9!
Early Autograph, 1989 Playoffs "The Shot"
Along with Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and a small handful of all-time greats, Michael Jordan has been at the forefront of the sports collecting boom. From rookie cards to autographs, MJ memorabilia has taken off, especially rare and high-grade examples!
Offered here is a gorgeous Michael Jordan signed check from his early playing days. It's made out in Jordan's hand with a pristine full name autograph at the bottom, that has been graded Mint 9 by PSA. It's payable to Highland Park Pediatrics for $71.00 and dated 5/3/1989. (Highland Park, Illinois is an upscale suburb of Chicago where Jordan lived when he played for the Bulls. His mansion is actually for sale right now for only $15M.)
Collecting signed checks is one of the earliest and most popular forms of autograph collecting. It has always been a safe bet within the hobby in terms of authenticity, and most feature nice full-name autographs like the example offered here.
Early autographs from the prime of the subject's career demand a high premium when compared to those signed during retirement. When this check was signed on May 3, 1989, MJ was already a perennial all-star, All-NBA 1st Team, regular season and All-Star Game MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year. In fact, the day before (May 2), MJ dropped 44 points and led the Bulls to a Game 3 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Just a few days later, Jordan would hit one of the most iconic shots in NBA history, a decisive Game 5 buzzer-beater simply known as… "The Shot".
