-Jordan's True Rookie Card!
-First Card Issued Featuring MJ as an NBA Player

Sports cards are back, and stronger than they have ever been. Over the last few years, the demand and value of high-grade stars and rookies have continued to rise. The hottest card on the market right now is the Michael Jordan 1986 Fleer Rookie. However, Jordan made his NBA debut in 1984, which was three years after Topps suspended basketball card production, and two years before Fleer picked up the torch. So, while Jordan’s 1986-87 Fleer Jordan is generally considered his rookie card, primarily because of its widespread traditional distribution in wax packs, the Jordan 1984-85 #101 Star is the first licensed card of him as an NBA player, and the only card from his rookie season!
The Star Company was the sole licensee of NBA trading cards between 1982 and 1985. Its cards were sold primarily through mail order and in shops, and some were even used as promotional giveaways by the teams themselves. It’s a very similar situation to Mickey Mantle Rookie Cards. While Mantle’s 1952 Topps is generally recognized as his iconic rookie card, Mantle made his debut with the Yankees in 1951, hence making the 1951 Bowman his true rookie. As for Jordan, the population of his True Rookie Card is significantly lower than the later-issued Fleer.
