Luke Appling played Major League Baseball from 1930-1950. Appling spent his entire career with the Chicago White Sox. Appling was a 7x All Star, and was the first A.L. shortstop to win the batting title which he did twice in 1936 & 1943. In 1936, Appling had a .388 Batting Average, which is the best of any shortstop in the 20th century. When Appling finished his career he was the all-time leader in double plays for a shortstop. Appling was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964.
