Lou Gehrig Signed 8x10 Photo with Babe Ruth, 1927 Barnstorming Tour. PSA
While the Yankees won the 1927 World Series, October did not necessarily mark the end of the baseball season for Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, who would travel together to play in exhibition games for baseball fans across the country. This Barnstorming Tour was put together by Christy Walsh, the first super agent, and offered here is an incredible photo featuring Ruth and Gehrig in their Bustin Babes and Larrupin Lous barnstorming uniforms signed by Gehrig!
Issued by Walsh with his official stamp on the reverse, the photo was originally printed with facsimile signatures from each slugger, inscribed “Yours Truly”. However, in this particular case, we were lucky enough to acquire a photo with an original Lou Gehrig signature! Personalized “To My Good Friend Herman Lang, Sincerely…”, Gehrig’s mint autograph is gorgeous and remains bold and dark in black fountain ink. Lang was a New York sportswriter who developed a friendship with Gehrig during his time with the Yankees.
The photo shows a bit of wear and has been professionally restored to fix any rips and chipping, but its history and rarity is tough to match! Gehrig passed away in 1941 at just 37 years of age, so his signature in any form is extremely rare, especially on one of the most important photographs in sports collecting!
