Offered here is a gorgeous Type I photograph of Joe Louis issued by International News. Measuring 6 ½ x 8 ½, the vertical photo of the young “Brown Bomber” maintains its original white borders and is free of any significant tears, rips, creases or defects.

The photograph, is from the mid 1930’s when Louis emerged as a serious as a title contender. He eventually took the heavyweight belt from James Braddock on June 22, 1937.

The image features Louis “in uniform” while looking directly into the lens of the camera – two important factors for serious collectors that affect the value.

Joe Louis (1914-1981) is one of the greatest boxers of all-time and cultural American icon of the early-mid 20th Century. Louis was the World Heavyweight Champion from 1937-1949 and victoriously defended his title 25 times.
