Alfred Hitchcock Autograph
Signed Self Portrait Sketch

Presented is a world class autograph and self portrait drawing in pristine, Mint condition by The Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980)
This English born movie director and producer came to the United States in 1939, a decade after making movies in Europe. He thriller movies immediately took American cinema to another level, particularly in the area of intrigue and suspense. In his 50 movies, he garnered 46 Oscar nominations, winning 6 of them outright. He is one of the most influential film directors in history.

His films include PsychoThe BirdsNorth by Northwest, Vertigo, Rear Window, Dial M For Murder, Notorious and the list goes on. He carried the mystery drama genre over to television in 1955 with Alfred Hitchcock  Presents, which later became The Alfred Hitchcock Hour in 1962. Those television episodes are among the most popular of all time, particularly his perverse or offbeat humor in each cameo before and after each show. They are iconic.

Generally recognized as the most influential film director of his time, he has been honored with five lifetime achievement awards, eight of his films have been selected for preservation by the American Film Institute, and in 1979 England's Queen Elizabeth bestowed upon him perhaps his greatest recognition by knighting him. He was even selected in 2012 by the English pop artist, Sir Peter Blake, to be on the new cover, of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band's Album, along with other British cultural figures.

Sir Alfred has beautifully placed his almost 4-inch long dark signature in blue fountain pen ink across this pristine 3x5 snow white card. In addition he has added a wonderful caricature drawing of himself. We all know that iconic profile from his television series. That was his trademark and he drew it beautifully. We really enjoy these distinctive collectible items.

A Hitchcock autograph alone is rare indeed, as he passed away in 1980 after a long sickness, but one with a caricature drawing of himself? Well that's simply remarkable. We call those "keepers" because they are rare and not to be overlooked as a "mere" autograph. These extraordinary pieces separate themselves from the common ones and will always command more in the future. Perhaps the best comparison would be the value of a single-signed ball of a baseball player to one that he added a variety of statistics, the latter being exponentially more valuable.

If you love the great Hitchcock and his mystery-intrigue stories this item is a must. We have witnessed a few others, but this one is as clean and eye-appealing as any example that we have seen. We were happy to purchase it and highly recommend it to movie lovers of any genre. It's presently contained in an airtight encapsulation "slab" from Psa/Dna, but can easily be removed, placed in archival mylar and professionally framed under ultraviolet-protected plexiglass.

A few quotes from Sir Alfred are in order now:
"A boy's best friend is his mother".
"We all go a little mad sometimes.''
"Do you really believe in the perfect murder".
"I hardly think a few birds are going to bring about the end of the world ".
"We've become a race of Peeping Toms".
