Extremely Rare, One of a Kind!
Offered here is a rare, original photograph signed and inscribed by "The Kid"! Before getting drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the #1 overall pick in the 1989 MLB Draft, Griffey was named the 1987 U.S High School Baseball Player of the Year and hit .478 with 17 home runs at Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Unlike his cards from the 1990's and the usual autographs commonly found in the memorabilia market, original Type 1 photographs from Griffey's high school days are extremely rare. Photographer Jim Calloway of the Cincinnati Enquirer perfectly captured baseball's sweetest swing, as the high school phenom absolutely crushes the ball in his Moeller HS uniform. Notice Griffey's laser focus as the ball leaves the bat, as well as all the equipment scattered behind the chain link backstop!
Of course, Griffey has since signed the photo and added his "HOF 16" inscription in bold blue ink. The autograph along the white border offers incredible contrast and has been graded perfect Gem Mint 10 by PSA!
A Type I Photo is a first generation photograph, developed from the original negative during the period when the photo was taken. They are highly sought after and desirable because of their clarity and originality, and they're valuable because of their low populations. Original photographs like this are extremely scarce, with only a handful known.
The fact that this particular Type 1 is signed and inscribed by Griffey, and graded Gem Mint 10, makes it absolutely unique... truly one of a kind!
Comes encapsulated in a PSA Type 1 Jumbo Slab.
