1969 Roberto Clemente & Thurman Munson Signed Baseball, Puerto Rican League. JSA
Roberto Clemente & Rookie Thurman Munson!
Offered here is one of the toughest multi-signed baseballs we’ve ever had in our collection, as it features the signatures of both Roberto Clemente and Thurman Munson from their days as teammates on the San Juan Senadores of the Puerto Rican League!
The reverence with which baseball fans speak of Roberto Clemente and Thurman Munson is simply unmatched. Sadly, both tragically passed away in plane crashes during their careers just seven years apart, but those who were lucky enough to see both of them play have passed their admiration on to the younger generations, and to this day they are two of the most beloved players of all-time.
Linked by their superstar talent and the tragic manner of their untimely deaths, Clemente and Munson had little connection during their playing days. Their Major League careers only overlapped for three seasons. Clemente was a member of the National League’s Pirates, and Munson was the catcher and Captain of the Yankees in the American League. Interleague play was first introduced in 1997, so the only time they faced each other in a Major League setting was in the 1971 All-Star Game.
However, in the winter of 1969-1970, these two legends had the privilege of playing together on the same team in the Puerto Rican League! At the time, Clemente was already an established perennial all-star, but Munson was relatively unknown. Well perhaps Clemente gave him a few tips during their brief stint as teammates because the following season with the Yankees, Munson was named rookie of the year! We simply cannot stress the importance of having both Clemente and Munson on the same ball enough! This is just the first we’ve ever owned, and to our knowledge, it is just one of two to exist in the entire world! The ball features twelve other members of the Senadores. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from JSA.
