Ted Williams MVP season, type 1 original photo, from pre World Series exhibition. In 1946 Williams batted .342 with 38 HR's and 123 RBI's to capture his first of two MVP awards. The AL pennant winning Red Sox would take on the American League All-Stars in a two game World Series tune up while the NL pennant was being decided in a three game playoff. Joe DiMaggio and Hank Greenberg were two of the AL All-stars who made the trip to Boston for the exhibition games.

Williams was hit by a pitch in the elbow during the exhibition, injuring him for his only World Series appearance. Fighting through the injury, Williams would go on to hit .200 with 1 RBI in the '46 series. Boston would lose the series in 7 games. Williams would go on to finish his career without ever reaching another World Series frustraing him for the remainder of his career. Publically Williams would never blame his poor performance on the injury sustained on October 2, 1946.

The black and white photo of Ted Williams features him kneeling in the on deck circle at Fenway Park. This rare classic interestingly enough shows Williams sporting the Red Sox road grey uniforms with the classic block "B" on the cap whle playing at home.

A Type 1 photo is a first generation photograph, developed from the original negative during the period. They are the most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types because of their clarity, vintage, and originality.

In a world where cards and autographs have dominated the hobby, vintage photography is an emerging genre of sports collecting that will continue to rise. These original photographs are extremely scarce with only a handful known – in many cases one of a kind! Serious collectors consider them true artifacts, as opposed to cards and other memorabilia that were mass produced for commercial sale and advertising.
