1933 Goudey Nap Lajoie #106
Charlie Conlon Collection
SGC EX/MT+ 6.5
The famous Nap Lajoie 1933 Goudey is among the rarest and most desirable baseball cards in the entire hobby, right up there with the famous Honus Wagner T206!
Goudey’s 1933 Big League Gum set initiated a Golden Age for collectibles. The cards feature colorful illustrations that really set the modern standard for cards in terms of eye-appeal.
What makes the Lajoie so scarce?
The original 1933 Goudey Issue consisted of 239 cards, with a 240th entry – the Napoleon Lajoie #106 - produced later on in 1934. This particular card was not issued in the original set as a marketing gimmick for consumers to purchase more gum in search of the elusive Nap Lajoie card. After much consumer outcry that the card couldn't be found, Goudey printed the cards and mailed to fans only upon request.
There are approximately 112 certified cards known in the hobby, with just about 36 graded higher than a 6.5!!
Arguably the greatest second baseman in the history of the game, Nap Lajoie's name appears on any serious collector's want list. Whether it be an autograph, or a prewar card like the one we have offered here, Lajoie memorabilia is always highly coveted and valuable.
One of the most impressive pieces we’ve had in our collection!!
