Hank Greenberg is one of the greatest sluggers the game has ever produced, and his prowess at the plate was certainly on full display during his 1935 American League MVP season in which he batted .328 and led the league with 36 homeruns and 168 RBI. Offered here is a rare Type I Original Photograph issued by Acme Newspictures from that special season!

With the Type I Photo market at an all time high, the genre’s most astute collectors seek images originally used for baseball cards, rookie era photos, as well as stills of stars and Hall of Famers from their most iconic seasons in the Big Leagues.

The condition is absolutely flawless, and as is always the case with Type I photographs, the clarity is absolutely unmatched. The 6” x 8” image features a smiling Greenberg in the home dugout of Tiger Stadium. How could he not smile with the season he was having?!

The reverse features the original Acme Newspictures stamp and caption, as well as the issue date, September 27th 1935.

A rare, classic image from Greenberg’s first of two MVP seasons

Authenticated and presented in a PSA/DNA “Jumbo Slab” – also accompanied by a PSA Letter of Authenticity

A Type 1 photo is a first generation photograph, developed from the original negative during the period. They are the most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types because of their clarity, vintage, and originality.

In a world where cards and autographs have dominated the hobby, vintage photography is an emerging genre of sports collecting that will continue to rise. These original photographs are extremely scarce with only a handful known – in many cases one of a kind! Serious collectors consider them true artifacts, as opposed to cards and other memorabilia that were mass produced for commercial sale and advertising.
