"Durocher Meets Negro Star"

"Havana, Cuba, Jackie Robinson (Right), negro infielder with the Montreal Royals, farm team of the Brooklyn Dodgers, is greeted by Leo Durocher, Dodgers' Manager, at the Nacional Stadium in Havana, Cuba, during the teams' series of exhibition games. Jackie, who can really sock the old apple, may some day play with the Dodgers."

This photograph was taken during Jackie's rookie spring training in Havana, Cuba, 17 days before 4/15/1947, when he broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

"I don't care if the guy (Jackie Robinson) is yellow or black, or if he has stripes like a god-damn zebra. I'm the manager of this team and I say he plays." - Leo Durocher (Spring training 1947)
